The Fluid Mechanics and Acoustics Laboratory (LMFA) involved in this project is a CNRS Joint Research Unit (JRU N°5509).  With its 200-220 Staff, LMFA develops a continuum of research in fluid mechanics and acoustics, from the understanding and the modelling of physical phenomena to applied research, in collaboration with industrial partners and public institutions. Research is organised around 3 socio-economic fields: Aeronautics and transportation, Risk and Environment, Energy and processes for industry and Health.

Advanced measurement techniques for aero-acoustics

 

Description of the activities

This postdoctoral work is part of a project funded by the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC). It will be carried out in collaboration with Airbus.

The measurement of wall pressure fluctuations using remote microphone probes is a very promising instrumentation solution for testing scaled models in wind tunnels. Its main advantage lies in the ability to measure wall pressure fluctuations in hard-to-access regions, such as thin profiles, the blades of a flow-straightening stator, the space between the rotor and stator of an axial turbomachine, or leading-edge cavities.

The objective of this research is to conduct both an experimental and numerical study of this type of instrumentation.

Job requirements

Required skills / qualifications________________________________

Diplomas : PhD (these de doctorat)

Experience : > 4 years (including Phd time)

Knowledge required: Aero-acoustics, advanced signal processing techniques, numerical methods such as Finite Element Method

Operational skills :

Experimental aeroacoustics (wind tunnel testing, microphone arrays)

MATLAB / Python for signal processing

CFD software (ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM)

FEM softwares (COMSOL, ACTRAN)

Spectral analysis (FFT, wavelets)

Behavioural skills :

Interdisciplinary collaboration (fluid dynamics + acoustics + scientific computing)

Analytical thinking

Scientific curiosity

Resilience (handling failed simulations/experiments)

Work context / environment_______________________________

The role will be based within the LMFA’s acoustics team. This is a full-time position, involving travel to Airbus in Toulouse for project meetings.

The recruitment process takes place in two stages, supervised by a recruitment committee, in accordance with Centrale Lyon's OTMR policy.
